How we teach Music at Moore

Music is a unique form of communication that can inspire and motivate children.  It gives an opportunity for personal expression, and it also plays an important part in the personal development of a child.  Music reflects our culture and society so learning experiences in this subject enable children to further develop their understanding of the world they live in.  Alongside providing opportunities for creativity and enjoyment, music can also be explored as a challenging and academic subject.  Music also provides opportunities for children to feel part of a community.

At Moore Primary aims of music are to:

-know and understand how sounds are made and then organised into musical structures

-know that music is created through the use of instrumental, electronic and vocal sounds

-develop the skills to create and compose their own music

-know how music can be written and recorded for others to perform

-understand that music is influenced by the time, place and purpose for which it was written

-develop the interrelated skills of performing, composing and appreciating music

-enjoy and/or appreciate a wide range of musical styles

-make and justify judgements about musical quality
